Meet Tonia & Steve

Ciao! I’m Tonia, Founder, and Guide of Vegan Food Tour Ortigia. As a vegan influencer and blogger in Napa Valley’s famous wine country, I spent nearly six years eating, drinking, and writing about some of California’s best vegan food and wine. In 2018 my adventures expanded to Berlin, Germany, then central Sicily, and now the gorgeous seaside city of Siracusa. Siracusa’s historic center, Ortigia, is the perfect location to launch the area’s first exclusively vegan street food tour. And I am happy to introduce you to the tour’s behind-the-scenes support, my husband, Steve. Even twenty-three years later, he continues to be my biggest advocate and strongest supporter! Though you may not meet him, I couldn’t do this without him!

     A great food (and some history, too) tour! I actually am not vegan, but this tour's timing fitted me much better than the regular ones, so I went with this one a what great choice it was. Tonia is an awesome guide, the atmosphere is relaxed and the food is simply amazing.

     Absolutely fabulous tour with Tonia Brauer of Vegan Food Tour, Ortigia! Three hours of walking, talking, laughing, eating the most delicious vegan food [from hot to cold; savoury to sweet], plus learning about the history of this tiny little island nestled off Siracusa, Sicily. Tonia is so delightful, and so knowledgeable about this part of the world where she now resides…and she’s clearly done her homework in order to create an inspiring, fact-filled and fun-filled journey. Her real passion for what she does shines through. Don’t miss out if you are in this part of Italy, vegan or not…this tour is for everyone…

     The Food Tour  was an absolutely great experience ! Tonia is the perfect tour guide and has funny and interesting stories about food and mythology to tell. She also told us a lot about the history of the city.
The food was delicious and we came back later to eat in one of the restaurants that Tonia showed us.
We would absolutely recommend to take this tour !!

     Informative and fun tour for vegans and non-vegans alike.

Tonia the guide for this tour is the type of person you immediately want to be friends with when you meet. Her energy and enthusiasm are infectious which flows into the tour.

The tour was paced well with the right amount of food and space in between. It was neither too much nor too little food. All the food from the various establishments was excellent. I would definitely take non-vegan friends to these places without hesitation.

The other part of the tour was the history, culture, tips and hidden gems of Ortigia. I have family in the Siracusa area and I still learned some things I didn't know.

In Sicily food, history and culture are all intertwined. You can't talk about one without the others and this tour did an excellent job of reflecting that.

For English speaking travelers in Southeastern Sicily I wholeheartedly recommend this tour. It's a wonderful way to spend a few hours in beautiful Siracusa tasting great food, enriching your knowledge with an amazing guide!

     An amazing vegan food tour in Ortigia, the highlight of my stay there. Tonia was a knowledgeable guide and passionate about what she does. The group was friendly and I had lots of fun getting to know the history of the place and trying the best vegan Sicilian food. It’s not just a food tour as Tonia took us around the most notable spots in Ortigia and had lots of history facts under her belt. It should be the first thing you do to get to know the place and all the vegan spots
